Tebelopele is a non-profit health and wellness organization dedicated to protecting and improving the lives of communities across Botswana for over 20 years. Tebelopele facilities are situated in 18 locations serving residents in rural, urban and town areas. In August 2018, Tebelopele, Botswana’s first and largest non-profit HIV Testing and Counselling service provider, expanded its service offerings from voluntary counselling and testing to integrated HIV-SRH services which includes: HIV and STI screening and treatment, TB screening, TB Preventative Therapy, family planning, Pre Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) in 5 of its 18 locations (Gaborone, Maun, Kweneng East, Palapye and Francistown) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness, PEPFAR/USAID/FHI 360 and ACHAP Global Fund.
To continue with these successes, Tebelopele seeks to recruit an inspired individual who is looking for a challenging job to join its team for the following position:
- QUALITY ASSURANCE/LABORATORY TECHNICIAN x1
1.1 OVERALL PURPOSE
Under the direct supervision of the Medical Officer, the Quality Assurance/Lab Technician will be responsible to ensure adherence to the laboratory quality systems within Tebelopele, planning and setting up of laboratories across Tebelopele centres to ensure consistency of results. The incumbent will be responsible for the control mechanisms concerning the delivery, processing and monitoring the performance of testing equipment including rapid HIV test kits. The officer will also responsible for quality control and assurance mechanisms pertaining to Tebelopele and should liaise with National Laboratory to ensure high quality controls. Will also provide training on the areas of expertise.
.2 KEY EFFECTIVENESS AREA
- Bleeding of clients due for specimen collection
- Manages the clinic’s compliance to set laboratory quality standards
- Run specimens on the Gene Expert machine and reports results to the clinical
- Send other samples to Government facilities and follow them up
- Receive results and alert the clinicians in case of an abnormal
- Manages relevant laboratory stock and
- Compile periodic reports
1.3 EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION
- Diploma in Laboratory Technology or Bachelor degree in Laboratory Sciences from an accredited institution or
- Sc. in Biochemistry, Genetics or Molecular Biology; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification (Prof): Any certification in the Laboratory Technician
- At least 5 years post qualifications experience preferably with knowledge of HIV/AIDS testing.
1.4 SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Prior experience in a hospital or laboratory environment
- Technical skills on rapid HIV test kits
- Technical skills of testing laboratories
- Responsiveness / listening skills
- Assertiveness
- Problem solving and analytical ability
- Training management skills
- Up-to-date knowledge of the issues surrounding HIV/AIDS in Botswana and internationally
- Basic Organisational Development skills
