Tebelopele has since 2008 trained health care professionals on different aspects of HIV service delivery, supplying the Government, private sector and civil society with over 70% of HTC service providers (counsellors; lay counsellors and peer educators). In an effort to ensure sustained growth and a career path for providers, Tebelopele has continued to provide education beyond basic certificate levels; it is currently in the process of formalizing accreditation with Tertiary Education Council for its Diploma Course in HIV and AIDS Counselling. Work is also underway to strengthen this course and other counselling courses for recognition by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Ministry of Health (MoH) and Botswana Counselling Association (BCA).
Tebelopele embraces an evidence based approach to its training programming. Moreover, it has developed targeted training curricula to respond to vulnerable groups. Tebelopele has built capacity of peer educators to support Most at Risk Populations (MARPS) project which was scaled up in Kasane targeting female sex workers and their clients. In partnership with MoH, Tebelopele has developed Counsellor Supervision curricula, participant and trainers manuals for couples and the discordant couple’s manual.
