Tebelopele, Botswana’s largest non-governmental provider of VCT, is required to provide consultancy services on HIV/AIDS prevention services among mobile populations in Selebi-Phikwe, Palapye and Francistown for the Ministry of Transport and Communication. The target populations are truck drivers, roads department construction workers and long distance bus drivers in the 3 locations. The project is expected to last for a period of six months starting from March 1 2011.
Purpose
In this consultancy, Tebelopele shall provide HIV Voluntary Counselling and Testing ser-vices to mobile populations. The services to be provided include the following:
- HIV Voluntary Counselling and Testing services;
- HIV and AIDS education including distribution of information, education and communication (IEC) materials;
- Distribute condoms (both male and female);
- Using Mobile population to spread HIV/AIDS messages
Scope
The project shall be implemented in Palapye, Selibe Phikwe and Francistown for a period of six months. The mobile population targeted shall include long distance truck drivers, road construction workers and public transport drivers. Each of the target groups require specific strategies for targeting. Tebelopele shall provide a team of six key personnel for the project – 3 Lay Counsellors and 3 Peer Educators – one of each at the target location. Refer to appendix B for a list of Counsellors and Educators being provided to the project. For quality assurance purposes, the Project Team shall be supported by the centres from which they will be based. The Projects Coordinator will provide day to day support for the project team while the project Director will oversee the overall implementation of the project. The project will be supported by other departments within Tebelopele such as Marketing, and Monitoring and Evaluation.
